Mercy Flight is Steve York, a Toronto-based Singer Songwriter. At one time my landlord, this collaboration started in a quick pass of the master CD out his car window as he drove past my office on Spadina Avenue during rush hour.

Here are a 6 concepts for his latest upcoming album, entitled “White Star”.

I was commissioned by the organizers to create a new image, a poster among them, for a popular open mic event at the Supermarket in Kensington Market called “Freef’all Sundays”. So change your strings, dust off your gig bag and sing your heart out.

On December 10th, 2009 (International Human Rights Day and my birthday!) the jhr office was filled with amazing volunteers to help stick small bands of duct-tape on envelope windows before sending our holiday direct mail out to 5,000 addresses. Our goal, to raise $20,000 to help keep our very important and effective projects in Sierra Leone alive and well. As of writing, we are only a couple thousand dollars short of reaching our goals, and donations are still flowing in. This was a huge success for jhr and everyone involved.

I was approached my Certified GermGuard to assist in their branding, from logo creation to promotional material. Certified GermGuard coats all sorts of surfaces, from stadium seats, to school lockers, to Blackberries, reducing up to 99% of viruses, bacteria and other microbial growth for up to one year. With pandemics on the rise, Certified GermGuard is a line of defense we can certianly use.

Along with many other reasons, one of the best things about being involved with a charity like jhr is having to do the best with the least amount of resources. This involves doing as much as you can, calling upon and sharping a variety of skills on a regular basis. From idea generation, videos, budgets, brand strategy, film production, animator and design. I often work in the digital world, so I’m always eager to work on print pieces, as there is a big difference, for me at least, in people seeing your work on a screen, and people walking up to your poster for a better view. This ever growing section includes examples of my many print projects for jhr.

My first task upon joining the head office of jhr was to completely rework the charities brand as the previous was difficult to communicate and poorly conveyed jhr’s progressive and innovative message. I came up with the idea to pitch to GRIP Unlimited, Honda Canada’s advertising agency, to offer paper cutouts of users customized 2009 Honda Fits. They loved the idea, and together with illustrator Fred Hon, we created paper cuts out that could be easily folded, a perfect desktop toy for any aspiring owner.
